Client Bio

Austin Ruffer is a New York City–based photographer who specializes in portraiture and intimate live performance. He is interested in the interaction of vibrant color with the beauty of candid moments, whether onstage or in close conversation.

Austin got his start as a photographer while documenting the nightlife scene at Club Cumming in the East Village. With a background in acting and theater, he prefers to play the role of a supportive "scene partner" in portrait shoots: engaging his subjects in conversation, assisting their needs and instincts, and guiding them toward truthful and revealing moments to capture.

The Objective

Create a bold, vintage inspired logo and help get Austin Ruffer’s photography business online.

The Solution

We got AustinYourFace Photography online with Format, a website platform specifically built for photographers and other visual artists. The logo was inspired by Polaroid x Dan Flavin light installations x general queer vibes.

Design Direction

“Clean and easy” were the guiding pillars for Austin’s website.

One of the inspiration references Austin sent was this neon rainbow. Another visual reference for the logo was the Polaroid logo. I chose to use the classic Helvetica to keep it feeling clean and timeless.

Choosing a platform

We chose Format, a lesser-known platform but one that's tailored for its users — namely photographers. With a built-in workflow from Lightroom through client galleries and editorial templates, Austin has been able to make updates as his photography business has grown entirely on his own.
